Repairs...

I started to repair my radiator. Once i got it off, i didn't find any crack anywhere?? I located the problem into the return connection "pipe". It was bended and deformed, leak was coming from between the hose and connection. Lower attachment of the radiator took some damage also and that was completely broken. In my opinion this attachment is mistake from the factory, it is quite vulnerable since it´s connected to oil tank. Any hit on skid plate can brake it quite easily.
I need to think different option for better attachment...
However i installed new silicon hoses for the whole cooling system, also changed cooling fan´s thermostat for lower temperature RC8 version. That switches on the fan´s sooner.


Aloitin jäähdyttimen korjailun, kun sain sen irti en löytänytkään halkeamaa?!? Vuoto johtuikin paluu puolen letkun kiinnityksen vääntymisestä, se oli mennyt melko soikeeksi ja sieltähän se vuodon syy löytyikin. Jäähdyttimen alakiinnike oli kokonaan mennyt poikki, tämä on mielestäni melkoinen tehtaan suunnitteluvirhe alkujaankin, se kiinnittyy öljytankkiin suoraan ja pienikin isku pohjapanssariin voi aiheuttaa tämänlaista vahinkoa. Täytyy miettiä parempia kiinnitys vaihtoehtoja...Sain kuitenkin vaihdettua uudet silikoni letkut järjestelmään ja tuulettimien termostaatin vaihdoin RC8 malliseen, se kytkee tuulettimet aikaisemmin päälle.

C'est fini...

Ok, morning i was ok to continue and everything started well, after a 8-9 km we took really muddy and slipery uphill. Temperature rised suddenly on the bike and all cooling liquide was gone...yesterdays accident made probably more damage on the radiator than i though, i decided not to burn the whole engine and i finished the whole rally. C'est la vie!! I'm disappointed...

Ok, aamulla oli hyvä fiilis jatkaa ja kaikki menikin hienosti, 8-9 km kohdalla aloitettiin tosi jyrkkä ja liukas nousu, pyörän lämmöt pomppasi tappiin ja tajusin että kaikki jäähdytysnesteet on pihalla, eilinen kaatuminen teki kuitenkin enemmän vahinkoa kuin luulin, jää nähtäväksi...

Päätin lopettaa ennenkuin koko moottori palaa pohjaan joten tämä ralli oli tässä...

Pettynyt fiilis mutta pakko oli tehdä näin...

Stony uphill HELL!!!

Second day started with the briefing at 07.00, roadbook had 240 km marked. I was feeling ok and felt good to take the route. After first really steep uphill i noticed that my front tire was burst, so that was it for me...i went back to the starting village and searched for the garage. I got little help from there, since they had only car and quad tires...with help of my " team mates from Alsace" (we've been riding together since yesterday) we managed to fix the tire.

We took tarmac road for the lunch break point and after eating we continued the rally.

Just after 20km of stony and muddy uphill's, i made a mistake and fell...

Bike's radiator took the hit and leaked all the fluid's on my boot which was trapped under the bike, managed to free myself and turned downhill, i was sure that it is finished for me. I took everything off from the bike to see were the leak was and realized that it was just a cooler hose which came off because of the hit, quick fix and back to the "race"!!

Next four hours i saw so much uphill's and stone's and mud that i never want to see those again! It was pure hell!!

No water( i used all for the radiator), nothing to eat for energy, i was really exhausted, i mean really!! Finally i got to the end! Not my day! I need to think if i continue tomorrow or not, meteo promises rain and if the route is like that tomorrow also, i cannot survive..

We will see..

Aamu alkoi hyvissä fiiliksissä, roadbook kertoi että matkaa on 240km. Briiffi oli kello 07.00. Matka alkoi hienosti, ensimmäisen tosi jyrkän ja kivisen mäen jälkeen huomasin että etukumi on puhki. Siihen loppui mun hyvä aamu, takaisin startti kylään etsimään korjaamoa. 

Sieltä sain vähän apua, lähinnä sympatiaa mutta eilen tapaamien Alsacen kaverien kanssa saimme kuin saimme renkaan korjattua. Päätimme ottaa autotien lounas pisteelle ja jatkaa siitä syömisen jälkeen.

Iltapäivä oli yhtä mäkeä, helvetin teräviä ja isoja kiviä ja mutaa..puolessa välissä tein virheen ja kaaduin, jalka jäi pyörän alle jumiin ja kaikki jäähdytysnesteet valui suoraan saappaalle. Olin varma että jäähdytin on vähintään halki ja peli on pelattu...

Takaisin mäkeä alas ja tien laitaan purkamaan melkein koko etupää että näkis missä vuoto on, onneksi vain jäähyttimelle tuleva letku oli irti joten nopea korjaus ja takaisin reitille!

Siitä alkoi mun helvetti, mäkiä (lue vuoria)

Kiviä ja mutaa. Ei vettä juotavaksi koska kaikki meni jäãhdyttimeen eikä edes syötävää. Neljä tuntia puhdasta tuskaa..

Selvisin kuitenkin lopulta vaikka en enää pysynyt edes roadbookin mukana, tuurilla

löydettiin loppuun asti.. 

Olen ihan loppu fyysisesti, huomenna mietin uudestaan jatkanko enää, meteo on luvannu sadetta, siinä tapauksessa en ehkä voi selvitä huomisesta, jos reitti on siis samanlainen kuin tänään niin ei toivoa! Jompikumpi hajoaa mies tai pyörä...sori kirjoitus virheet, olen vaan niin puhki ettei pää toimi...

First "day" is done...

Ok, where should i start? First day is done and i am quite happy, i managed all the technical parts of the route better than i thought, 950 Super enduro can do more than me and it performed great! At the end of the day when it got pitch dark and i mean really dark, i got a myself in a trouble. I was driving stony uphill and after on the top i switched my yeys on the roadbook and on same second i dived in the deepest mudhole ever, i lost my vision, lights, everything.. Because everything was full of mud...after a small break, i continued almost "blind" and got to the end after all! Good day and i am exhausted, shower next and then sleep..continue tomorrow!

Ok, mistäs aloittais, päivä on pulkassa ja selvisin jopa kaikista teknisistä pätkistä hyvin. 950 super enduro meni hienosti ja miehestä loppuu kyvyt ennemmin kuin pyörästä. Vasta illalla kun tuli säkkipimeää tein ison virheen, jyrkän ja kivisen nousun jälkeen kukkulan huipulla, vilkaisin roadbookkiin ja samalla sekunnila sukelsin järkyttävään mutalammikkoon, näkö meni, valot meni, kaikki meni täyteen mutaa..pikku tauko ja sain jatkettua kuitenkin loppuun..hieno päivä kaiken kaikkiaan! Nyt suihku ja pää tyynyyn! Huomenna jatkuu!

Controle technique...

Today i had a technical control for tomorrow's start. Guy who was checking my bike was more interested what a Finnish guy was doing here than how was my bike. Anyway, i'm good to go tomorrow morning. It will be quite cold at 7:30. Meteo shows +3, well suite's me...

Tänään mulla oli tekninen katsastus ja kaveri joka sitä teki oli enemmän kiinnostunut siitä mitä Suomi-poika täällä tekee kuin pyörän kunnosta. Leiman sain ja nyt on kaikki valmiina huomis aamun starttiin. Aika vilpakkaa keliä lupailee aamuksi +3 näytti tiedotus, kyllähän se pohjoisen ihmiselle käy...:)

Raid bleu!

Tomorrow i will be in starting line of Raid Bleu. Neck is quite ok, luckily it was just muscle related and apparently not hernia, like last year. Rally takes four days and i will try to update something in here every evening, with some pictures.
I hope everyone is happy for the shirt´s. I think i got all orders correct. Some maybe still in post but are coming. Like i said in last post, i will make another set if there is enough people who want´s one.

Huomenna starttaan Raid Bleu:n Beaujolaisissa. Niska on ihan ok kunnossa, onneksi kyse oli ilmeisesti lihas-peräisestä kivusta eikä välilevyn tyrästä niinkuin viime vuonna.
Ralli kestää neljä päivää ja yritän päivittää joka ilta kuulumiset kuvien kera.
Toivottavasti kaikki on kunnossa paitojen osalta, sain ilmeisesti tilaukset hoidettua oikein. Jotkut voivat olla vielä matkalla mutta saapuvat piakkoin.
Kuten aiemmin kirjoitin, meinaan teettää toisen setin jos vaan saan tilauksia tarpeeksi, nimen saat tilauslistaani contact form kaavakkeen kautta sivun oikealla laidalla.

I am currently on sick leave because of my neck, old injury and nothing drastic, just painful. Lot´s of medication and i think i will be ok for the RAID BLEU in 30.10.

Front mudguard changement, etulokarin muutos...

Yesterday i finally received my low front fender, it's 950 adventure's but with rally raid's bracket set i was able to fit it. Main purpose is to get more air to the radiator, looks good!

Eilen sain vihdoin tilaamani matalan etulokarin, se on 950 adventure mallin lokari mutta rally raid firman sovite palojen avulla sain sen asennettua. Pääidea on saada enemmän jäähdytys-ilmaa... Näyttää hyvältä!

New tyre for Raid Bleu, Uusi rengas Raid Bleu:en...

Today i received a new rear tyre for my upcoming Raid Bleu rally. It´s Mefo I.S.D.E Master. Look´s really "knobby", i will see how it works in Beaujolais forests...Next to it is TKC80. I´ve used Mefo Stone masters before and really liked them, it will be interesting to see the differences.
Tänään saapui uusi takarengas Raid Bleu rallia varten. Mefo I.S.D.E Master. Todelle karkea ja väljä kuvio, saapa nähdä miten toimiin Beaujolain metsissä...Vieressä TKC80. Olen käyttänyt ennenkin Mefoja, Stone masteria joista tykkäsin kovasti. Mielenkiintoista päästä testaamaan ja vertaamaan näitä.

Raid bleu, Beaujolais...

Today i signed for a "practice rally", Raid Bleu. It is A four day rally in beautiful Beaujolais area, France.
It will be only around 700km but since it´s at the end of october  (30.10-3.11.), there´s a good chance it get´s muddy. For me it will be a nice test for the bike and for myself also. Let´s see how it goes....

Tänään ilmoittauduin harjoitus ralliin, Raid Bleu:en. Se on neljä päiväinen tapahtuma kauniissa Beaujolain kunnassa, Ranskassa.
Se käsittää vain noin 700 km, mutta Lokakuun lopulla siellä on hyvät mahdollisuudet todella mutaisiin olosuhteisiin. Tämä tulee olemaan hyvä testi pyörälle ja itselleni. Katotaan kuin äijän käy....

I have received orders already, thanks for that! I will take orders until 11.10. and after that shirts go for printing. I will send payement info for everyone concerned on the same day. It will be end of october when i will start sending shirt's forward.

Small idea to get some "sponsoring"...

Since i decided to do this as a "privateer" and not to join any of the teams. I need to think ways to gather some kind of sponsoring.
I decided to go old "do a sponsor t-shirt idea". I talked with my good friend Pasi about it and he contributed he´s artistic ideas and made a design. Now i just need to put wheels turning and make things happen...
I will make this on demand, so i need to start collecting names....

Kun päätin tehdä tämän niin sanotusti "privaatisti" enkä liittyä mihinkään tiimiin, oli pakko miettiä edes hiukan sponsorointia.
Otin vanhan "tee t-paita" idean ja juttelin hyvän ystäväni Pasin kanssa, joka taikoi minulle artistin "päästään" hienon designin. Nyt täytyy vaan laittaa pyörät pyörimään ja saada homma eteenpäin...

Bike prepping...

I've been preparing my KTM 950 se for rally for a while now. This has been done:

-rally fairing set.

- 2-1 exhaust.

- rear aux fuel tank.

- better bash plate to protect the engine cases.

- vacuum fuel pump.

- few protection pieces around the bike.

- roadbook and ICO.

- better seat.

- adjusted the suspension.

- changed wheel bearings.

- updated the airfilter for a custom made system for easier cleaning and changing.

- foam grips to avoid blisters as long as possible.

Still on to do list are:

- steering suspension ( SCOTT).

- try out TUBLISS system for tyres.

- install a drinking water system, 2 l.

- chains and sprockets.

- test drive it like mad!

950 SE  is not the best bike for rallying what comes to weight but i chose to use it, mainly because that bike was in my garage and i kinda like the idea to take it to it's limits.

It's not so long time a go, that they used these heavy bikes for even Dakar, so these are capable bikes!
 what comes to the driver, that's a another story...

Tämä 950 SE ei ole optimaalinen pyörä ralliin, se on vaan pyörä joka mulla oli tallissa ja jota olen valmis viemään äärirajoille. Eikä siitä nyt vielä kovin kauan ole kun tämän painoluokan vehkeillä kurvailtiin Dakarissakin, joten kyllä kapasiteettiä näistä löytyy!
Mitä kuskiin tulee, se jää nähtäväksi...

Touareg rally 2014, yhden miehen yritys...

Few thousand kilometers in North-African desert, no support teams, just a man, motorcycle and few tools. That is where i stand.

Pari tuhatta kilometriä Pohjois-afrikan aavikolla, ei support-teamia, vain mies ja moottoripyörä ja muutama työkalu. Siinä eväät minun yritykseeni.
